Guy has worked within the residential property market for over 45 years. Before embarking upon a career in the London market, he was advised to ‘cut his teeth’ in a country practice and joined a firm of Agricultural Auctioneers and Estate Agents in Sussex in 1961. Here he also studied and qualified in 1968 as an Associate of The Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers – now amalgamated with The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors – and simultaneously moved to work in London.
Early in his career he set his sights on John D Wood and after gaining experience with Central London Agents in Kensington, Chelsea and Belgravia, he joined the firm at their head office in Berkeley Square, Mayfair in 1978 and in 1980 was invited to the partnership (John D Wood & Co).
After some 20 years in London he moved back to the country opening a new office in Farnham for John D Wood & Co in 1988 as resident director. Returning to the country he soon recognised the increasing need for purchasers rather than sellers to be professionally represented and in 1995 he resigned to set up his own independent Consultancy, based in Winchester where he and his wife live, to fulfil the demand.
With his long established contacts and thorough knowledge of the property market, this gives him access to information often before it is released and he has thus successfully acted for discerning Clients,
generally through recommendation – and largely from London and overseas – in the acquisition and rental of country houses, cottages and town houses in Hampshire and adjoining counties ranging in prices from £395,000 and upwards of £4 million.
Due to his overall experience he is also regularly consulted locally about residential property matters where he is either able to help Clients himself or refer them to other professional contacts, be they Agents, Solicitors, Architects, Builders, Designers, Landscape Gardeners etc..
Guy has always been a ‘people and property’ person and has endeavoured, as far as possible, to remain in touch with his Clients and contemporaries in the business which he has always considered fundamentally important and a sound basis for a good working relationship in a very personal and discreet manner.
